The refurbishment program

The aim of the refurbishment program is to bring houses owned by Aboriginal Community Housing Providers (ACHPs) in remote and very remote locations up to the standard accepted by the Aboriginal Housing Office (AHO).

Refurbishment projects are undertaken only on properties owned by an Approved Housing Provider or ACHP seeking Registration with the AHO.

  • Between the beginning of NPARIH in 2008 and June 2014, 733 properties have been upgraded under the backlogs repairs and maintenance program.

  • The amount and type of work undertaken on each home will depend on its condition as assessed by the AHO and in consultation with the ACHP.

  • Refurbishment work commences as soon as possible after the ACHP has signed a funding agreement or headlease with the AHO, and once the property has been assessed.
